Asian American Mental Health Counseling

What is AAPI?

Asian American Pacific Islander refers to a diverse groups of ethnic identities with unique cultural backgrounds, strengths and challenge, including those whose family originated from Asia and/or Pacific Islands.

What makes AAPI therapy different?

It is important to contextualize these experiences and honor each individual’s wholeness. For example, families struggling with immigration after the civil war and genocide may have lingering impacts of trauma. Those who have experienced racial traumas may struggle with identity as an Asian American growing up in the United States. Most recently, violence targeting AAPI communities have had adverse effects on the community’s mental health with reported increased rates of anxiety and depression.

Our approach

Although research and statistics suggests that mental health incidence has increased among the AAPI population, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are more than 50 percent less likely to seek mental health help due to stigma, lack of resources and cultural barriers. OHM Counseling values lived experiences and cultural appreciation in context of your current concerns, we will meet you where you are at in your journey. Please reach out to schedule a consultation.
